Can I convert this musics to mp3? If yes, wich program is better?

1. It's great that you take care of correctly tagging all files but do you have any policy about what exactly each field means for you? If you had something like that written, it would be easier for me to automatically convert tags to style I like (e.g. I don't like LABELNO or LABELID, I would use CATALOGNUMBER instead).
2. Also about the “ARTIST” field, most people agree that it should be either “the most prominent person involved” or “who's attributed on the cover”. Do you have any specific rules for choosing ARTIST?
3. Does dōjin music tracks have ISRC's?

1. Yes, we do.
   title = obviously the track title.
   artist = the arranger for arranged tracks, composer when it comes to originals, and occasionally performer when that fits better. In 99% of all cases, the arranger is the one performing as well.
   albumartist = what we use for the circle name, as that is the name of the artist responsible for a compilation. Because circles are closer related to the artists than a label, we felt that the albumartist tag was better fitting than organization.
   convention = the convention an album was released at.
   comiket = comiket with the tag value being a number is what we use if the convention is Comiket, but then we don't use the convention field
   date = release date
   discnumber = disc number of X discs, usually 1/1
   genre = 同人 (doujin) is not really a musical genre, just like indie. However, it's used to label an album as being a doujin music. We occasionally fill in other values too, but defining genres is difficult.
   labelid = catalogue number. We might switch to catalogid in the future, as that'd be more correct.
   originalalbum = the source of an arranged song, could be an album, a game or really anything
   originalartist = the artist that did the original song
   originaltitle = the title of the original song which an arrange is based on. The originaltitle tag is used even if the arranged song bears the same name, because it's practical for search capabilites. All originalinfo can like any other vorbis comment tags be used more than one time; if there for instance is a song based on two different songs, there'll obviously be two different originaltitle tags.
   replaygain_* = ReplayGain volume normalisation values
   tracknumber = track number X of X
   


2. The circle name is usually on the cover, but most doujin releases are still supposed to be thought of as compilations, and the arranger (or in case the track is an original; composer) for each individual track is usually the artist. Most oftenly, they are the ones performing anyway. Some few circles are actually bands (ie. Demetori, 石鹸屋). In those cases, we fill the band name into the artist tag value, and don't use albumartist.

Most of the time it's kinda hard to remember a title if you don't know japanese, so these tags are quite handy. Also, they are great for searching stuff. For example:

Example 1: I want to find a Demystify Feast remix. Just by searching Demystify Feast on foobar2000 will return me the tracks I want, because of the originaltitle tag.

Example 2: I want to find a 月まで届け、不死の煙* remix. Tough cookie, because I'd have to fire up the Japanese IME to type it on the search textfield. But by adding the tags I recommended above, I could just search for those songs by typing *reach for the moon or tsuki made

What program do you use to tag the files? I swear finding a good tagging program is the hardest thing ever. You have to sift through a bunch of shareware crap that turns out to not have Unicode support, etc...

I second this idea, it would allow media players to still display the title in kanji but have the benefit of letting people search for what they want much easier.

I was wondering, why won't the group release batch torrents?

Seeing how individual torrents die so easily I wondered if there is a reason for not doing this. It would be a bit easier for people to seed old/dead releases.

I know there are two huge torrents out there on the internet, but I (and Im sure others as well) would prefer having albums with NEET's superior tags.

It's a really good suggestion, and we can certainly understand its usefulness, no problem. Thing is, we are already putting a lot of effort into the metadata, and adding those tags would mean six more values to fill for every single track. In the end this would almost double the amount of work needed for each release, and none of us really have that much time for now. I'm sorry to say we'll have to pass on that good idea.

We use an application called Ex Falso, part of the Quod Libet audio player, which for now only works on free software platforms. Might run on OS X too, I don't know.

The group released a dBu music batch this winter. There are several reasons behind not having released convention batches. One is that we've often come back with more stuff after a while, but this is not so important. Previously, disk capacity was very limited, so releases were not stored after the initial upload. Tags in the library are updated often, so it wouldn't be possible to reseed using those. Perhaps we will be able to do this kind of thing in the future, now that storage isn't really a problem.

What's your stance on "recruiting" new people? Lately, I've started ripping doujin music in the exactly same way as NEET does and I would gladly help you, if you're interested.

Do any of the NEET staff choose (or are willing) to sell CD's once they rip them? I'm referring to mainly circles that aren't found in any webshops that ship outside Japan, or any webshops at all.
